The Autry will also be hosting a screening ofOyate Woyaka and a panel discussion with the filmmakers and Sage Fast Dog, who is featured in the film and started a Lakota Immersion School on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. The event is from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include art, music and a reception.
Oyate Woyaka highlights how valuable Indigenous language and culture is to the world. In addition to restoring the language within the community and using it to heal from historical trauma, Indigenous languages can help the world address biodiversity loss, mental health and climate change.
The Autry is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Buy your tickets today!
The Autry Museum of the American West acknowledges the Gabrielino/Tongva peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar (the Los Angeles basin and So. Channel Islands). We recognize that the Autry Museum and its campuses are located on the traditional lands of Gabrielino/Tongva peoples and we pay our respects to the Honuukvetam (Ancestors), ‘Ahiihirom (Elders) and ‘Eyoohiinkem (our relatives/relations) past, present and emerging.
