About the Event

Join us on Indigenous Peoples Day for a special event showcasing the voices and languages of indigenous communities. Oyate Woyaka features fluent speakers of the Lakota language. Because of government policies to intentionally destroy the language, Lakota is nearing extinction. This film shows this history as well as the efforts being made to preserve and revitalize the ancestral language.

Experience the powerful stories told in this documentary and support a great cause by attending our fundraiser. Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of something meaningful and impactful. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to language preservation efforts including outreach and immersion schools.

Land Acknowledgment

The Autry Museum of the American West acknowledges the Gabrielino/Tongva peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar (the Los Angeles basin and So. Channel Islands). We recognize that the Autry Museum and its campuses are located on the traditional lands of Gabrielino/Tongva peoples and we pay our respects to the Honuukvetam (Ancestors), ‘Ahiihirom (Elders) and ‘Eyoohiinkem (our relatives/relations) past, present and emerging.
