Join us for a virtual theatrical release of Thousand Pieces of Gold, a critically acclaimed masterpiece that tells the real-life tale of a young Chinese woman sold into slavery in 1880s Idaho’s gold country. The film’s themes resonate even more in the era of #MeToo but, despite being favorably compared to John Ford, director Nancy Kelly was never offered another movie.
Due to the pandemic, distributor Kino Lorber is releasing this beautiful 4k restoration in a virtual theatre as a means of supporting small independent cinemas around the country. Your ticket fee is shared with the Autry and gives you five days to watch the movie during its limited run.
Directed by Nancy Kelly
Starring Rosalind Chao, Chris Cooper, and Michael Paul Chan
Join a virtual Q&A on YouTube at 8pm (EST) on April 29. Hosted by Brooklyn Academy of Music with director Nancy Kelly, producer Kenji Yamamoto, actors Rosalind Chao and Chris Cooper, and screenwriter Anne Makepeace.
