National Day of the Cowboy & Cowgirl – Enjoy Family-Friendly Activities All Day!

About the Event

Celebrate National Day of the Cowboy and Cowgirl with extended museum hours until 7 p.m. and family-friendly activities for guests of all ages. Enjoy trick ropers, live music, country line dancing, film screenings, cowboy poetry, horse grooming/petting workshops and photos ops! Autry members enjoy early access at 9:30 a.m. and a Member Cookout in the Corral (café). The Member Cookout includes 2 free lunch tickets per Autry membership only. Additional lunch tickets can be purchased by members for their guests ($10 per adult and $5 per child). Cookout includes hot dogs, macaroni salad, fresh fruit salad, PBJ sandwiches, chips, cookies, ice cream treats and non-alcoholic beverages.

10 a.m. - 7 p.m. | Museum open

9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. | Horse grooming workshops, photo ops and black cowboy history presentation courtesy of Urban Saddles

10:30 a.m. | Jammin with Jared children's performance on plaza (sponsored by Johnny Zamrzla and the California Circuit Finals Rodeo) 

11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. | Cowboy themed docent led tours

11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. | Member Cookout in the Corral (café)

11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. | Trick Ropers on the plaza (sponsored by Johnny Zamrzla and the California Circuit Finals Rodeo) 

12 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. | The Gene Autry Show TV episodes

1 p.m. | Film screening of The Cowboys (1972) in the theater

1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. | Cowboy Poetry in gallery

3:30 p.m. | Country line dancing lesson and dancing on the plaza  (sponsored by Johnny Zamrzla and the California Circuit Finals Rodeo) 

5 p.m. | Live music by Matt Axton on the plaza – acoustic set (sponsored by Johnny Zamrzla and the California Circuit Finals Rodeo) 

8 p.m. | Back to the Future III Street Food Cinema film screening and 7 p.m. live music by Matt Axton Band (full band set) on the lawn – Autry membership or SFC ticket purchase required
