MUSEUM HOURS | The museum will close at 4 p.m. on February 8 for a private event.

A painting depicts cowboys on horseback herding cattle across a hilly landscape. The scene is bathed in soft pastel colors from the early morning or late afternoon sky, with clouds glowing pink and orange. Cacti and shrubs dot the terrain.

Romance Reimagined

February 8, 2025 – April 13, 2025

Marilyn and Calvin Gross Gallery

About the Exhibition

Award-winning paintings and sculptures collected through the Autry’s Masters of the American West annual art exhibition and sale compose this exhibition that explores the role of romanticism in contemporary art. A style of art originating in the late 18th century that quickly spread across Europe and the United States, Romanticism emphasizes emotion, imagination, and immersion in nature as the source of beauty and truth.

In Western art today, Romanticism is associated with depictions of the natural world, noble creatures, and conjured histories. Come and experience the West as it has been imagined to be, but also as it is: a place indelibly shaped by the enduring appeal of its historical image.

Miniatures presented in this exhibition will be auctioned at our exclusive opening celebration Saturday, March 8, 2025.
