About the Event

Inspired by the recent documentary Gather: The Fight to Revitalize Our Native Foodways this conversation explores California's current environmental crisis from a Native perspective including a discussion on water ways, forest management and the tremendous untapped diversity of California’s Native food ecosystems. Featuring Sanjay Rawal, director of Gather; A-dae Romero-Briones (Cochiti/Kiowa), First Nations Development Institute; and Sammy Gensaw (Yurok), co-founder of the Ancestral Guard.
Gather is an intimate portrait of the growing movement among Native Americans to reclaim their spiritual, political, and cultural identities through food sovereignty, while battling the trauma of centuries of genocide.
