About the Event
Join author Jonathan Earle for a conversation with Autry President and CEO Stephen Aron about his latest book, He Has the People: Abraham Lincoln and the Election of 1860.
Drawing on the work of the nation's first campaign journalist and newly uncovered documents from Lincoln's campaign manager, Earle offers a vivid account of the turbulent 1860 election, revealing how Lincoln's campaign combined powerful rhetoric with remarkably modern political strategy to win one of the most consequential presidential elections in American history.
Moving beyond familiar stories of Lincoln's rise, Earle explores the fierce rivalries, party divisions, and grassroots organizing that defined the campaign, showing how a bitterly contested election reshaped the nation on the eve of the Civil War. Discover the personalities, political maneuvering, and high stakes behind a pivotal moment in American history.
Following the conversation, Jonathan Earle will sign copies of his book, which is available in the Autry Store.
Access to the exhibition Life, Liberty, and Los Angeles is included in your ticket, and the gallery will be open between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Sandwiches, salads, and beverages will be available for purchase before the program.
