Join us in honoring and celebrating the enduring spirit of Indigenous arts!

(May 9, 2025 - Los Angeles, CA)—The Autry Museum of the American West hosts its 34th annual American Indian Arts Festival (AIAF) in Griffith Park, showcasing some of the nation’s best contemporary and traditional Native artwork, including jewelry, pottery, sculpture, basketry, and beadwork.

Festival attendees are invited to join the vibrant celebration of art and culture while engaging in a deeper dialogue about the importance of preserving and honoring our shared cultural heritage. At the heart of the festival's mission lies a commitment to spotlighting the contributions of California's Native communities, whose voices have too often been overlooked in the broader art world. The Autry festival highlights the enduring spirit and continued contributions of artists like Leah Mata-Fragua (Northern Chumash). Her artwork graces the Autry exhibitions Human Nature and Reclaiming El Camino: Native Resistance in the Missions and Beyond.

The interactive experiences of AIAF invite festival goers to "Create, Connect, and Imagine." Discover what happens when Star Wars meets Indigenous design with HOPI R2, a collaborative creation by Hopi artist Duane Koyawena and engineer Joe Mastroianni, then explore the museum to discover more Native artists exploring concepts such as time travel, cosmic beings, and ancestral technologies. Meet Tongva artist River Tikwi Garza and create your own take-home linoleum block print using designs drawn from Tongva iconography, basket patterns, and his own artistic practice. Experience spoken word poetry in the galleries with performances curated by filmmaker Pamela J.Peters (Diné). Witness traditional and contemporary hoop dance and powwow performances with the Wild Horse Singers and Dancers and Terry Goedel and Family, and discover Indigenous stories and hands-on activities designed for young families in the Future Generations Zone.

The ticket price also includes admission to the museum, where you will find work on display that explores the diversity and excellence of Native American artists like Cara Romero(Chemehuevi), Harry Fonseca (Nisenan Maidu), and many more.
