About the Event

Join us for summer workshops held in our Autry Education Classroom!

The We Tell Stories Process of Turning Stories into Plays is a melding of the arts of storytelling and theatre. It defines boundaries and a structure within which creativity can thrive. It teaches that Failure is just another way toward Success. Simply put, it uses language, movement, and Improvisational theatre games to turn stories into plays. Thus fostering the tenets of improvisational theatre including:

  • Trust And Support
  • Pay Attention, Be Adaptable
  • Admit That Anything Is Possible
  • Say What You Do, Do What You Say

We will be offering two morning workshops:

Session 1 (10:15 a.m.): kids ages 3-5 will use language, movement, and theatre games, children will turn nursery rhymes into little plays

Session 2 (11:15 a.m.): kids ages 6-8 will use language, movement, and theatre games, children will turn Aesop’s Fables into little plays

www.wetellstories.org

Since 1981, We Tell Stories has performed over 29,400 workshops and nearly 19,000 shows to over 4,712,000 people across 31 states in the nation. Using a unique blend of storytelling and audience participatory theatre, the folklore, literature, and mythology from all cultures and eras are brought to life with plenty of energy and lots of laughs. There are integral roles for audience members in every story told. And everybody goes home saying, “I could do that!”

CARL WEINTRAUB, the founder and artistic director of We Tell Stories was the first recipient of the Los Angeles PASA Award for life achievement in professional artistry in schools and was the first actual artist (as opposed to educator) ever to receive the Los Angeles Music Center’s Bravo Award for achievement in arts education.
