(May 22, 2026, Los Angeles, CA) The Autry Museum of the American West’s exhibition Future Imaginaries: Indigenous Art, Fashion, Technology will be closing on June 21, 2026. Curated by Amy Scott, Executive Vice President, Research and Interpretation, Future Imaginaries opened September 7, 2024, as one of more than 70 exhibitions and programs presented as part of PST ART: Art & Science Collide. Future Imaginaries explores the rise of Futurism in contemporary Indigenous art as a means of enduring colonial trauma, creating alternative futures and advocating for Indigenous technologies in a more inclusive present and sustainable future.

The exhibition features more than fifty artworks from artists such as Cara Romero, Will Wilson, Virgil Ortiz, Wendy Red Star, and Jontay “Kahm” Kahmakoatayo, among many others. Virgil Ortiz’s ReVOlt 1680/2180: Sirens & Sikas brings the artist’s personal space odyssey to life in a new, site-specific installation. Replacing Future Imaginaries in the Samuel & Minna Grodin Gallery will be Promised Lands: California's Unratified Treaties and Native Resilience, which opens September 26, 2026. The exhibition explores the history of federal treaties and the complexities of treaty history in California.
