The Autry Museum of the American West presents its annual American Indian Arts Marketplace

a man weaves

From timeless traditions to bold contemporary expression, the American Indian Arts Marketplace is where creativity and community come together.

(May 22, 2026 - Los Angeles, CA)— On June 6 and 7, 2026, the Autry Museum of the American West will host its 35th annual American Indian Arts Marketplace, formerly the American Indian Arts Festival. The marketplace will feature more than 100 Native contemporary and traditional artists presenting and selling their work, including handmade jewelry, sculpture, beadwork, and pottery. The Marketplace reflects the museum’s commitment to elevating Native voices through direct engagement with the people and perspectives shaping this work today.

The marketplace will hold a juried competition in the categories of basketry, wood carving, painting, mixed media, textiles, and sculpture, and honor an outstanding artist age 17 or younger with the Youth Recognition Award. Autry Museum curators will also issue the prestigious Autry Museum Purchase Award, in which the winning piece is purchased and added to the museum’s permanent collection.

Marketplace attendees are also invited to watch performances of traditional powwow dance styles and traditional songs by the Wildhorse Native American Association as well as theatrical staged readings of two new plays presented by Native Voices, whose mission is to develop and produce new works for the stage by Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and First Nations playwrights. Attendees can also enjoy a slate of select screenings by contemporary Native filmmakers from the Sundance Institute Indigenous Program in our newly renovated and reopened theater.

Don’t forget to create your own piece of take-home art after attending a linoleum block printing workshop and live painting session with Tongva artist River Tikwi Garza before trying your skills in a workshop with world champion hoop dancer Terry L. Goedel (Yakama/Tulalip). Then stick around to see an extraordinary display of artistry, athleticism, and tradition in a multigenerational performance by renowned hoop dancers from the Goedel Family.

Marketplace admission includes all-day access to the museum. General admission begins at 10 a.m. Artists retain the full proceeds of the sale of their work.
