Village Landmark

There are places that exist in our memories, the essence of a time, a season. The experiences that inspired this work reflect a northern New Mexican village in the spring, on a winding road beneath the Truchas Peaks. The very rains that nurture the trees are often intense and foreboding. Then there is the levity and beauty of the blooming fruit trees, which mark a transition from winter into spring as a new cycle begins. The adobe village comes to life with an almost musical quality. The scent of blooming trees, sagebrush, and moist earth become airborne, and the memory is forever planted into my consciousness, beckoning me to paint it as I once saw it . . . as a memory of time and place.
