Scott Tallman Powers

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1972, Scott Tallman Powers currently lives in Kalispell, Montana. He first began drawing as a child with his father who was a medical illustrator, photographer, and fine artist. His love of art began while watching and learning from him.

Powers’s education began in high school with two influential and supportive art instructors. This led to four years of intensive study at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. There he trained under many important instructors in the fields of oil painting, watercolor, drawing, anatomy, and sculpture. He later spent many years as an illustrator at a Chicago ad agency before pursuing his dream as a full-time fine artist.

Powers draws inspiration from many different cultures from all over the world, including our own. The human element is at the core of his journey. People, places, and experiences have sewn their way into his work for many years, giving him a better understanding of the world we live in. He has traveled extensively to many countries searching for both the inspiration he thrives on and to find the balance between cultures. His goal is to express stories and experiences as honestly, sensitively, and with as much integrity as he can—a passion that is growing day-by-day and mile-by-mile.

Powers has works in many private collections in the United States and around the world. His work now hangs at the Wengyuan Museum of Fine Art and the Shaoguan Museum of Fine Art in the Guandong Province of China, and at the Academy Museum in Easton, Maryland. His numerous prizes include the 2012 Collectors Choice Award at the Coeur D’Alene Art Auction, Reno, Nevada, and the 2011 Henry Farny Award for painting at the Eiteljorg Museum’s Quest for the West. He has participated in many prestigious invitational exhibitions in the United States, China, Israel, and Europe, and his work has appeared in such publications as American Artist, Art of the West, Southwest Art, Western Art & Architecture, and Western Art Collector. Powers is a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America and the founder of Plein Air Painters of Chicago.

Scott Tallman Powers is represented by Settlers West Galleries Inc., Tucson, Arizona.
