Welcome to the South Platte River. A couple hours’ drive and hike from Denver, we’re sizing up alternating glossy, transparent pools elbowing their tumbling downstream exit between huge, garage-size boulders. Hmm, fish or paint? Paint or fish? The river holds lots of savvy, healthy trout . . . but those boulders!?
The small on-the-spotter I painted on location for this larger version is titled Fishy, Really Fishy, and wins the coin toss in my mind.
