About the Event
John Sayles’ iconic film shows us the mysterious borderland where the Old West meets Modern America. In Frontera, Texas, a sheriff investigates an old murder and finds that along the town’s many frontiers, history will not stay buried. With fine acting by the film’s stars, as well as memorable turns by Frances McDormand and Kris Kristofferson, this “New Western” has become a classic. Introduced by Virginia Scharff, Distinguished Professor of History Emerita, University of New Mexico.
Directed by John Sayles | Starring Chris Cooper, Elizabeth Peña, and Matthew McConaughey | Screened in 35mm | Rated R
