Learn how to pan for gold, just like how the 49ers did during the California gold rush!
For the safety and comfort of visitors and staff, Gold Panning closes during extremely hot days (typically when the temperature exceeds 100 degrees). When Gold Panning is closed, alternative family-friendly activities are available inside the museum.
Expanded Summer Hours: Tuesdays–Sundays, June 13–July 28, 2017,10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
Gold panning may be cancelled on certain days due to weather conditions such as rain or extreme heat.
Please Note: Gold panning will not be available June 23 to 25, however the following activities will be available for students and families:
- Interactive art carts and dress-up stations
- Storytime (June 24 only)
- Scavenger hunts
- Native plant exploration in the ethnobotanical garden
