A hero to science fiction fans and the Asian community alike, George Takei is an actor, writer, and activist who earned his place in pop culture history as Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the Starship Enterprise. He was a spokesman for the Human Rights Campaign's Coming Out Project. On his nationwide speaking tour, “Equality Trek,” he talked about his life as a gay Japanese American. A native Angeleno, his life has been a personal journey along the sweeping saga of California history.
