How does Hollywood’s portrayal of Los Angeles reflect its complicated cultural history? Vincent Brook, a media and cultural studies professor at USC, UCLA, and Cal State LA, will discuss his new book in which he uncovers Hollywood’s version of the city, using as signposts such films as Mi Familia, Boyz N the Hood, Charlotte Sometimes, Falling Down, and The Kids Are All Right. A book signing follows the program.
