Roger 'Sosakete' Perkins (Saint Regis Mohawk), Grandmothers,
2009 Jackie Autry Purchase Award; Best of Pottery

The Autry’s American Indian Arts Marketplace is an annual celebration of Native American art. This fun and entertaining weekend includes performances by local Native American musicians, story tellers, dancers, and actors as well as opportunities to sample a variety of Native American foods; participate in hands on craft activities; and view artist’s demonstrations.

The highlight of the weekend is the Marketplace where you can buy directly from over 120 American Indian artists offering original jewelry, artwork, basketry, sculpture, pottery, textiles and much more. This is a wonderful event for the whole family, and a great opportunity to find unique gifts and collectibles.

The American Indian Arts Marketplace at the Autry abides by the American Indian Arts and Craft Act of 1990 . All artwork sold on the grounds of the American Indian Arts Marketplace at the Autry is sold by the American Indian artist who has created the piece.

Artists compete in a juried competition for awards and prizes in seven categories and Best of Show. Each year one piece from the competition receives the Jackie Autry Purchase Award and is added to the museum's permanent collection.
