
Harley Brown
< >Harley Brown attended the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and the Camberwall School of Art in England. His career as a painter of portraits of political and entertainment figures was launched when he was commissioned to paint a portrait of Winston Churchill.
His had his first solo exhibition in 1973 at the Montana State Historical Society in Helena. A few years later, Brown became a charter member of the Northwest Rendezvous Group. He is also a member of the Tucson 7 artists’ group. He exhibits annually in the Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition and Sale at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. In 1990, Brown won the prestigious Robert M. Lougheed Memorial Award at the National Academy of Western Art (NAWA), and he was accepted into the Cowboy Artists of America (CAA) in 2005. At the 2006 Cowboy Artists of America Sale and Exhibition in Phoenix, Arizona, he received the Gold Medal for Drawing. He teaches at the Scottsdale Artists’ School, where a spot in one of his classes is often hard to come by.
