Silent Bidding
We anticipate intense interest in Howard Terpning's Traders Among the Crow. To ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to purchase the piece, there will be a sealed silent bid procedure. Patrons who have a ticket to the Cocktail Reception and Fine Art Sale on Saturday, February 4, may bid the price they are comfortable with. Bids will remain sealed until 7:00 p.m. when Grant Thornton LLP will open the bids and we will announce the winner. Silent bid forms are included in the packets distributed at registration on the day of the event. Those who have purchased a ticket, but are unable to attend, may request a silent bid form by calling 323.667.2000, ext. 317.
Rules of Sale
On Saturday, February 4, the Masters exhibition is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It re-opens at 5:30 p.m. for the Cocktail Reception and Fine Art Sale. Guests will receive one ballot book consisting of one intent-to-purchase slip for each piece of art. For each artwork you wish to purchase, you must write your name on the matching numbered slip and drop it into the artwork’s accompanying box prior to the drawing.
The drawing of intent-to-purchase slips begins at 7:30 p.m. at the sound of the triangle. Two names will be drawn and posted beside each work of art. The person whose name is drawn first has 20 minutes to confirm the purchase with the salesperson next to the artwork by signing the sales receipt. At 7:50 p.m., the triangle will sound again. If the person whose name was drawn first has not arrived to sign the sales receipt, the next person whose name was drawn is then given the option to purchase and 15 minutes to confirm the sale.
All artwork will be sold in this manner with the exception of the silent bid artwork. In the case of sculptures with multiples in the edition, the work on display goes to the person whose name is drawn first, unless otherwise noted. Names will be drawn until the edition is sold.
The Masters Miniatures has its own section in the ballot book with the intent-to-purchase slips designated by color and number. The Miniatures wall closes at 7:30 p.m. One name for each miniature will be drawn and posted in the lobby at 8:00 p.m. Individuals whose name has been drawn will have 15 minutes to confirm the sale.
PLEASE NOTE: All purchases must be paid by cash or check. Credit cards will NOT be accepted the night of the sale.
