Kosher picnic sponsored by National Council of Jewish Women

Most Jewish communities in the West organized following a common pattern. Initially, men created benevolent societies, cemeteries, and congregations. Women soon founded their own networks of benevolent societies and sisterhoods. As communities grew, hospitals, schools, charities, and other associations developed to nurture and preserve communal life.
