The Autry in Griffith Park: George Montgomery Gallery
February 1, 2014–March 16, 2014
The country’s premier Western art show, the Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale celebrates its 17th anniversary at the Autry National Center of the American West with opening-day activities on Saturday, February 1, 2014. This prestigious exhibition challenges nationally recognized artists such as Howard Terpning, Mian Situ, George Carlson, Bill Anton, Tucker Smith, Z. S. Liang, Robert Griffing, Morgan Weistling, Tammy Garcia, and others to exhibit their very best work. The juried exhibition and sale features 80 artists, including established Masters artists and emerging talent. Proceeds from Masters support the Autry’s dynamic educational programs, ongoing collections conservation, and much more.

New artists joining Masters this year include Jeremy Lipking and Dustin Van Wechel. Six guest artists will also be welcomed this year: John Budicin, John Cosby, Lori Forest, Lynn Gertenbach, Conchita O’Kane, and Brittany Weistling. These emerging Western artists will contribute works to the popular Miniatures wall.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, February 1, and will be on view to the public that day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The opening-day program will feature artist talks and a chuck wagon luncheon with an artist awards presentation. The event continues into the evening with a cocktail reception and fine art sale beginning at 5:30 p.m., where patrons and artists join in the festivities and approximately 275 works are sold by a drawing.
Entrance to the Masters exhibition is included with museum admission; however, tickets are required for the special opening-day events. The museum will close at 4:00 p.m. to prepare for the ticketed evening cocktail reception and sale. All of the artwork in the show will remain on exhibit through Sunday, March 17, 2013.
In addition, for the first time at Masters, four pieces from the exhibition will be sold by live auction at a special artists’ dinner on Friday, January 31, for Patron-level sponsors and above. Attendees can bid on works by Howard Terpning, Mian Situ, Z. S. Liang, and Kyle Polzin. For information about sponsorship opportunities, call Janet Reilly, Director of Special Events, at 323.495.4317.
